Why Not Me?

WHY NOT ME? by Amis

Robin Sharma, author of The Greatness Guide and The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari claims that reading keeps him on the game – and at his highest. I absolutely agree and even in my profession, reading is one of my true sources of ideas and inspirations.

February is coming and as promised I wanted to come out with Tee’s of different designs. Basically, my concept revolves around sports.(It was been my dream of becoming the Nike of the Philippines). But being an artist, there will be times that your focus becomes more intense and your ideas are shouting out loud on your head you can’t contain them no longer.

There will be times as well, when your head is as empty as, ahem, my pockets! No ideas, no concepts, no nothing. There comes the help of reading (observing is another source). One of my clients (or two of them, whom I consider gifts to my company because of the motivation I’m getting from them) gave me a book by Robin Sharma. Very nice book! It’s a good sequel to The One Minute Manager and Fish.

While reading, I got caught on these three words Mr. Sharma thread together (or borrowed from an advertising guru named Donny Deutsch): WHY NOT ME? I thought it will make a pretty good statement (on a Shirt) – and every one can wear.

WHY NOT ME? You see a man driving a Ferrari? Did it ever occur to you asking yourself, “WHY NOT ME, driving that pretty machine?”

You get a copy of a magazine and read about a young dude who’s making millions of ninoys. Were you just contented admiring? Did you never asked your self, “WHY NOT ME?”

Every time you see your crush, your heart starts to beat faster and suddenly happiness on every of those moments, strikes you. Never wished those moments could stay there for a long time? Perhaps, forever? Then after some time, you saw that one lady of your dream holding hands with a guy (we start calling them “lucky bastard” after a while) you never imagined she’ll even date. Man, WHY’S THE GUY NOT YOU?! WHY NOT YOU?! WHY NOT - YOU?!

Because you were scared?

Mr. Deutsch wrote in his book Often Wrong, Never in Doubt, “For every person with the stuff, the one out of a hundred who goes to a rarefied place is the one who says, ‘WHY NOT ME?’, and goes for it.”

Stop being jealous. Stop being envious. Stop being complacent.

Start reading biographies of successful people. Start thinking of the dudes you admire the most. Start observing the good stuffs being enjoyed by the “lucky ones” – or I should prefer to call “the strong ones”. And when get inspired by them, ask yourself “WHY NOT ME?”
